|Florene M. Colwill, 87, passed away peacefully April 19, 2013 at Prince of Peace nursing home in Sioux Falls.
Florene M. Colwill was born in Salem, SD on March 23, 1926 to Mathew and Martha Gstohl. She attened St. Mary’s parochial school in Salem. After leaving school she worked in Mitchell at the defense plant and later at John Morrell’s in Sioux Falls. She married Fred Colwill Feb. 4th 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salem, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls where they became charter members of St. Lambert’s Catholic Church. Florene worked for a short time at Charlie’s Pizza and Taco Town, but spent most of her life as a devoted wife and mother. She loved to work the daily crossword and to play cards, especially Bridge. She played in a 500 club for several years and was one of the founding members of the Round Robin Bridge Club.
Gratful for the gift of her life are her four children: Tom (Janet)of Sioux Falls, Jim (Cathy) of Des Moines, IA, Brad (Kathy) of Phoenix, AZ and Gayle (Doug) Matzke of Yankton, SD; six grandchildren: Nicol, Michael, Tina, Joshua, Travis, and Douglas; six great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents, Martha and Mathew Gstohl, three brothers, Laurel “Bud”, Mathew “Matt” Gstohl,and Donovan “Don” Gstohl, and two sisters, Lois Kadinger and Mary Weise.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Lambert Catholic Church with interment at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin 2:00pm Monday with family present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home with a wake service at 7:00pm.www.heritagesfsd.com.
